L’Egypte ambitionne de faire passer la part des énergies renouvelables dans la production totale de 20 % en 2022 à 42 % en 2035 dans le cadre de sa stratégie intégrée pour l’énergie durable (ISES).
La capacité d’énergie renouvelable en Egypte passera de 3,51 GW en 2020 à 13,7 GW en 2030, avec un taux de croissance annuel composé de 14,6 %, selon un nouveau rapport de GlobalData. Cette progression sera portée par l’énergie solaire photovoltaïque et l’énergie éolienne qui domineront le marché des énergies renouvelables dans cette décennie.
Intitulé « Egypt Power Market Outlook to 2030, Update 2021 – Market Trends, Regulations, and Competitive Landscape », le rapport évalue le marché égyptien de l’électricité et estime sa croissance d’ici à 2030. Selon GlobalData, la capacité solaire photovoltaïque cumulée devrait passer de 2,02 GW en 2020 à 7,71 GW en 2030. Sur la même période, la capacité éolienne terrestre cumulée devrait passer de 1,39 GW à 5,64 GW.
L’Egypte dispose d’un important potentiel d’énergie éolienne, notamment dans la région du golfe de Suez, avec une vitesse de vent stable d’environ 8-10 m/s. Les régions situées à l’est et à l’ouest du Nil, dans les gouvernorats de Beni Suef et l’oasis d’El Kharga, présentent également des vitesses de vent comprises entre 5 m/s et 8 m/s, qui conviennent à la production d’électricité. Concernant l’énergie solaire, l’Egypte dispose d’un fort potentiel avec un ensoleillement moyen de 2 800 à 3 200 heures par an et une irradiation solaire de 1970 à 3200 kWh/m2 par an.
Grâce aux tarifs de rachat (FiT), au programme Sun Initiative et au programme d’électrification rurale, le pays pourrait accélérer le développement des énergies renouvelables. Il avait fixé pour objectif de développer 10 GW supplémentaires de projets solaires et éoliens d’ici 2022. Le pays prévoit notamment de collaborer avec l’Arabie saoudite et les Emirats arabes unis pour améliorer son secteur de l’électricité.
